Maturing is realizing that Nobita (Doraemon) was the worst character of all.

I'm writing this because I recently saw a post shading Doraemon and I thought I'd give my opinion. I'll preface this by saying I'm a huge Doraemon fan, but as I've grown older, I've realized that Nobita is very likely the worst character in the entire series.

Let's start with the basics; he's a champion slacker. He can't get up on time even with ten alarms going off, and every day he's late for class and blames everyone else for not waking him up. He spends more time asleep than awake, and must have a severe allergy to homework (I mean, Nobita is in sixth grade, his homework is literally addition and subtraction, with fractions being the "most complicated" thing; I don't even want to know how he got to university). Another thing is his grades; either the teacher has it in for him or he's semi-illiterate. How can he fail EVERY single one of his exams with a 0? That's almost equivalent to leaving the exam blank, because even doing it randomly he could scrape some points. And in sports... I don't even know how he's still alive and in such good shape, because even running is bad for him (when he tries). Oh, and I almost forgot, he's a jealous stalker who tried on MANY occasions to separate Shizuka from Dekisugi because the guy is a CHAD compared to him.

And okay, we can say the above is "the magic of cartoons," but now comes what's really serious, and that's how spiteful he is. I understand that Giant is a bully with mood swings and anger management issues, okay, Suneo is a jerk, but in many episodes he borders on sociopathy. For him, even the slightest offense deserves severe revenge (all the times Suneo rubs his travels in his face, which is admittedly very annoying, but Nobita is extremely offended); there's the episode where he uses the invention to stop time to humiliate them in public (for Nobita, talking badly behind his back is punished by being graffitied and half-naked in public), or the one where he makes them disappear with the despotic button, or the one where he uses a telepathic invention to make everyone his "slaves". Fortunately, in most episodes, karma gets him back, but that kid with such powerful inventions is a danger.

But, for me, the worst thing Nobita did in the whole series was what he did to the new kid who was "worse" than him, because that episode showed that if you give Nobita the opportunity to be bad, he'll be the biggest jerk ever seen. In short, a new kid arrives in his class who turns out to be worse than Nobita in sports and studies, but unlike him, the kid tries to improve but struggles. And what does Nobita do? Pretend to be his friend to make fun of him, act cool, humiliate him in public and even get him into trouble like going to the baseball game in his place knowing that Giant is going to beat him up. Nobita only changes when Doraemon reflects the situation as if he were Suneo and the kid were Nobita, and that affects him because in that situation the victim is him and not someone else. In the end, the kid forgives him and leaves because apparently he wasn't moving permanently and that's where it ends. With Nobita being forgiven after being a first-class bully.

Conclusion: Nobita didn't deserve a future with Shizuka. At the end of the day he never changed and as seen in the Stand By Me movies, he remained a coward and even became a carbon copy of his father.
