Để hoàn thành tốt các bài tập thì hiện tại tiếp diễn, trước hết bạn cần nắm vững lý thuyết về dạng ngữ pháp này.

1. Khái niệm

Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn (Present continuous) được sử dụng để diễn tả hành động/ sự việc đang diễn ra ở thời điểm nói hoặc xoay quanh thời điểm nói. Hành động/ sự việc này vẫn chưa chấm dứt, còn tiếp tục diễn ra.

Bên cạnh đó, thì hiện tại tiếp diễn cũng được dùng để miêu tả một hành động xảy ra trong tương lai gần hoặc hành động lặp đi lặp lại gây tiêu cực.

2. Cách chia thì hiện tại tiếp diễn

Công thức:

(+) S + am/is/are + V-ing

(-) S + am/is/are + not + V-ing

(Yes/no question) Is/ am/ are + S + Ving?

Ở dạng câu hỏi yes/ no, công thức trả lời sau:

• Yes, S + am/is/are.

hoặc

• No, S + am/is/are + not.

(Wh- question) Wh- + is/ am/ are + (not) + S + V-ing?

Ví dụ:

• At the moment, Monica is cooking dinner and her sister is setting the table. (Ngay bây giờ, Monica đang nấu bữa tối và em gái của cô đang sắp xếp bàn ăn.)

• Andy is not working on the project. (Andy không đang làm việc trên dự án.)

• Are they organizing a surprise party for their children? (Họ có tổ chức một bữa tiệc bất ngờ cho con của họ không?)

• Who is he talking to on the phone? (Anh ấy đang nói chuyện với ai qua điện thoại vậy?)

3. Dấu hiệu nhận biết thì hiện tại tiếp diễn

Để nhận biết thì hiện tại tiếp diễn, bạn có thể dựa vào các trạng từ chỉ thời gian như:

• Now (bây giờ)

• At the moment: (lúc này)

• At present: (hiện tại)

• At + giờ cụ thể + now

Hoặc các động từ ngắn như:
